Auckland neighbourhood guide: Wynyard Quarter

October 17, 2019

Auckland is a city of diverse neighbourhoods and suburbs, each with their own flavours and hidden spots to discover. From those closest to the marina, like Wynyard Quarter, to those further afield like surfer's favourite Muriwai Beach, we'll be giving you a short run down of what to see, do, eat, and experience - and where - in Auckland.

Wynyard Quarter
If you're berthed in Silo Marina or the Viaduct Harbour, Wynyard Quarter is your next door neighbour - and what a neighbour to have! One of Auckland's newest neighbourhoods, Wynyard is still being developed with new bars, brunch spots and open public spaces opening all the time.

Jack Tar is one of the first places you might stumble open and as of October 2019, it's undergoing a refit to freshen up what it has on offer. The North Wharf pub has a distinctly Kiwi vibe and offers relaxed waterfront dining with plenty of space for casual drinks. For a spot to sit in the sun with a glass of wine, try the Conservatory - its comprehensive wine list is designed to match to the free range menu and it's also fast building a reputation for exceptional cocktails.

If your tastes are leaning more towards brunch, head to Williams Eatery. This family-owned gem serves up the goods with a menu featuring delights like hot cakes with mandarin curd, beef ragù and caramelised onion on sourdough, free range eggs on kumara sourdough, all accompanied by Flight coffee. And it has triple-cooked chips on its breakfast menu - can we get an amen.

Brand new Studio Pilates offers high energy, inspiring classes, uplifting music and a luxe space for a workout that could best be described as intensely sculpting. If that has you craving more movement, head to Habit gym for bootcamp, boxing classes and a boutique, private gym.

The Auckland Fish Market has evolved from its more literal (and pungent) fish market days and is now filled with a selection of leading eateries in a relaxed setting. With pizza, sushi, gelato, Thai, South American fusion, Ika bowls and the freshest seafood, it's the perfect destination when you're feeling indecisive.

Baduzzi is consistently ranked one of Auckland's top restaurants and with good reason; it's one of the best Italian restaurants in Auckland with a thoughtful wine list and plenty of unusual varietals to match the menu.

Over summer Silo Park comes alive with its summer programme. Running from December, on Fridays from 5pm you'll find food trucks, music and an outdoor movie that screens from 9pm. On Saturdays and Sundays from 12 - 6pm, you'll find food trucks, the Silo Bar, games and puzzles.
