City activity nights

October 11, 2019

Aucklanders love activities and the central city is full of options to break you out of the standard night out rut. We've rounded up a few of our favourite options - and they're all within a short Uber ride of the marina.

Axe Throwing

The Sweet Axe Throwing Co. is exactly what it sounds like - a place to unleash your inner lumberjack and hurl axes at a target. They say it’s like darts - but with axes - and works in a round robin tournament style. Great for letting off steam! It’s in Nelson street in the CBD so would be great combined with heading to a Federal Street restaurant. The Sweet Axe Throwing Co is at the top of Nelson St which is around a 5-10min Uber from the marina.

Arcade games at Archie Brothers
Archies is a brand new circus-themed arcade bar with dodgems, bowling, arcade games and a whole lot of kid-style energy, squarely aimed at giving adults a good time. It’s also got diner-style food and candy-filled cocktails and can organise a package for groups. It’s in Newmarket which is around a 15-20 minute Uber ride away depending on traffic.

Comedy and Tanuki’s Cave
Comedians followed by Tanuki’s Cave is a bit of an Auckland institution. Head to The Classic on a Wednesday for Big Wednesday - 10 comedians for $15. Following comedy (or pre) it’s always off to Tanuki’s Cave next door which is a yakitori bar accessed down a steep set of dodgy looking stairs off Queen St. Inside it’s dark, atmospheric and usually crowded but the food’s incredible! Tanuki’s and The Classic are both at the top of Queen Street which is a 5 - 10 minute Uber ride from Silo Marina.

Holey Moley
Right in the heart of the Viaduct, Holey Moley is a mini golf course and a bar rolled into one. It’s way more fun than it should be, with each hole themed and with a multitude of hazards. It also has the benefit of being really close to the marina - just a short walk into the Viaduct and you’re there. It's become a favourite with Aucklanders as a date night followed by food at one of the many places to eat near by. White and Wongs is a stand out and perfect for sharing in a group or head upstairs to Dr Rudis and nab one of the tenpin bowling lanes at the back.
